Who wants to make a freshly baked pretzel? Especially when the pretzel is still warm and crispy you can not resist this delicious pastry with its brown crust and its soft paste inside.

Today we present you an easy and delicious recipe.

You need the following ingredients:

500g flour
1 cube of yeast
a bit lukewarm milk
a bit salt
250ml water
2 soup spoons of natron
rough salt for besprinkling

First of all, you have to prepare the yeast dough. Crumble the yeast, put it in the flour and add lukewarm milk. Let it brew for about ten minutes. After that add a bit salt and knead the paste. Now the duff has to brew again for one hour.

After the brewing time you can shape a roll out of the duff. Out of this role the pretzel can be shaped.

Let approximately 1,5 liters of water boil in a pot and mix it with two soup spoons of natron. This mixture should boil for ten minutes.

The shaped pretzels can now be dipped in the natron and be besprinkled with the salt.

Bake the pretzels at 200° for 12-18 minutes.

Wer möchte sich eine ofenfrische Brezel backen? Vor allem wenn die Brezel gerade frisch aus dem Ofen kommt und noch ganz warm ist, kann man dem Laugengebäck mit der braunen Kruste außen und dem weichen Teig innen nicht widerstehen.

Heute stellen wir ein einfaches und leckeres Brezelrezept vor.

Folgende Zutaten werden benötigt:

500g Mehl
1 Würfel Hefe
etwas lauwarme Milch
etwas Salz
250ml Wasser
2EL Natron
grobes Salz zum Bestreuen

Zuerst muss der Hefeteig zubereitet werden. Dazu die Hefe zerbröckeln, ins Mehl legen und lauwarme Milch dazu geben. Kurz ca. zehn Minuten im warmen ziehen lassen, damit die Hefe schon mal gehen kann. Eine Prise Salz hinzufügen und dann kann der Teig geknetet werden. Anschließend muss der Teig ca. eine Stunde ziehen, damit die Hefe aufgehen kann.

Aus dem Teig kann nun, nach einer Stunde Ziehzeit eine Rolle geformt werden, aus der man wiederum Brezeln formt.

In einem Topf ca. 1,5 Liter Wasser aufkochen lassen und mit zwei Esslöffeln Haushaltsnatron mischen. Zehn Minuten sollte das Gemisch kochen.

Die geformten Brezeln können nun in die Natronlauge getunkt werden und anschließend mit dem groben Salz bestreut werden.

Bei 200° müssen die Brezeln ca. 12-18 Minuten gebacken werden.

In Romania, there is a story about "the first bread".

In South Germany you can find the pretzel on every breakfast table. Also in Austria, the pastry is loved. But people do not just eat the pretzel for breakfast, they enjoy it also at lunch or dinner. Either pure or as a side dish. The butter pretzel is favored as well.

The contemporary form of the pretzel has developed over the centuries. The beginnings of the pastry are dated back to the early christianity. At that time the ringlike form of bread was used for the sacrament. Over the time, this form changed. There are several legends about the evolution of the contemporary pretzel form. One of the legends says that a monk baked one of the first pretzels. Through the shape of the pretzel he represented crossbreded arms for prayer.


In Süddeutschland ist die Brezel auf jedem Frühstückstisch zu finden. Auch in Österreich liebt man das salzige Laugengebäck. Die Brezel wird aber nicht nur zum Frühstück verspeist, man isst sie gerne zu jeder Tageszeit. Entweder pur oder als Beilage. Sehr beliebt ist auch die Butterbrezel.

Brezeln gehören zur Familie der Gebildbrote, die mit der Hand geformt werden. Ein weiteres Beispiel für ein Gebildbrot wäre der Zopf.

Die heutige Form der Brezel hat sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte entwickelt. Die Ursprünge liegen im frühen Christentum. Dort wurde eine ringförmige Brotform zum Abendmahl verwendet. Im Laufe der Zeit hat sich dann diese Form verändert. Es gibt verschiedene Sagen, über die Entwicklung der heutige Brezelform. Eine davon besagt, dass ein Mönch die ersten Brezeln gebacken hat. Er stellte durch die Form der Brezel zum Gebet gekreuzte Arme dar.

The German magazine "Das Brot Magazin" of the Germany baker guild calls it the “Louvre of the breads”. Although the Bread-Museum in the Danube city Ulm with 1150 square meters is 52-times smaller than the Louvre in Paris, the topic with which it is dealing is much more important. It deals with the most important basic foodstuff in history – the bread. The different facets hunger, craft, technology, politics, arts and culture show the diversity of the subject.

Aromatic dried piers, the so called „Kletzen“, sweet cowards, juicy plums with pithy nuts and warming spices mixed with bread dough: spimply delicious such a seductive “Kletzenbrot”! It’s one of the oldest pastries of Austria and its  forms as well as its production could not be more different.
