In times of a major medical process, the Bulgarians still follow their traditions. Thereby the healing effect of their traditional medicine shouldn't be underestimated, because its used since decades for healing a big diversity of diseases. Even the modern medicine trusts in the treatment with medicine herbs which healing effect actually is scientifically proven.

At the 24th of July, in Bulgaria people collect herbs which have the biggest healing effect at this day. As a symbol of this holiday stands the woodruff. The Bulgarian people believed, that the woodruff collected at the St. John’s day can heal every disease.


Healing tradition

 
Due to the climate and natural conditions in Bulgaria there is a wide diversity of plants. Furthermore Bulgaria is said to be the country with the most medicinal herbs all over Europe. The healing effect of most of these plants is even scientifically proven. There are a lot of books about herbal medicine and information about the usage and the therapy with Bulgarian herbs. 

Extremely valuable are the notes of old medical herbalist, because these people living in the nature, experienced the healing effect of the herbs on their own. With the Bulgarian folk medicine as a basis, the healing effect of the snowdrop was discovered which is still used in the medicine. The preparation “Nivalin” is used for the therapy of polio and neuritis. 


Unique herbs of Bulgaria


Some herbs are unique in their healing effect and grow only in Bulgaria. For example the medicinal herb “Pirini-tea” with its purging, invigorating and strengthening effect is one of these herbs. Its continuous consumption reduces the risk of a heart attack and a stroke. Since a long time, this tea is recommended by doctors for treating airway diseases as well as for liver diseases and kidney diseases. It grows especially in the Mursalitza-region in the north of the Rhodopen-village Mugla near of the boarder to Greece. The locals there will pour a cup of tea for you to welcome you, because they still believe that this is the best way to wish someone a long and healthy life. Since decades legends are told about the healing effect of the tea. 

The most health problems a Bulgarian herbalist is asked for are allergies and anxiety neurosis. Herbalists believe in the more sustainable treatment with herbs.
